Water sports and some of the best fishing in the United States are common activities among the residents and visitors in Bainbridge. Thousands of professional and amateur fisherman participate in recreational fishing year-round. In fact, many of the top bass fishing tournaments are held in the Bainbridge area throughout the year. Lake Seminole ranks fifth in the country when it comes to bass fishing. Striped and white bass, catfish, crappy and bream are living in abundantly sized populations in Lake Seminole.
In addition to the challenging bass tournaments there are many casual competitions held almost every weekend among the local bass clubs and professional anglers. The Jack Wingate Open gives fishermen an opportunity every March to strut their stuff and see how their angling skills compare to other skilled fisherman from around the world.
There are three parks that are beautifully maintained by the City of Bainbridge. The parks offer outdoor barbecue pits, camping areas, playgrounds, and an outdoor theater. Camping, boating, water skiing and picnicking are some of the favorite pastimes in the area. Freshwater beaches abound in the area, along with RV sites and a brand new, state of the art marina.
Elevated nature trails, bike trails, boardwalks, lighted tennis courts, fishing pie rs and more can be found in the Bainbridge area at the different park and campsites.
If you're in the mood for organized sports the Bainbridge Leisure Services department offers a wide range of things to do. There is a public pool maintained by the City and another one at the local chapter of the YMCA.
If you're looking for water fun check out the 140 foot long Spiral Speed Slide, Walrus Swings, Rain Tree, Water Curtain, a kiddie slide and a zero depth area at the City of Bainbridge Aquatic Center. For serious swimmers, the newly built Aquatic Center is your ticket with eight practice lanes and a designated diving area. Visitors also have the opportunity to take scuba diving and swimming lessons at the center, which is open during the summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day).
Two golf courses are located in the Bainbridge area. The Bainbridge Country Club features an eighteen hole golf course, a club house, swimming pool and a pro shop. There is also a public nine hole golf course at the industrial park, or there are eighteen hole courses Colquitt, Donalsonville and Cairo, all within minutes from Bainbridge.
Flag football, soccer, softball, baseball&all sports are available for all ages making up a big part of the Bainbridge sports scene. From tee ball to young adult leagues, there is sure to be something for anyone looking for some fun and excitement in Bainbridge!
Statewide tennis tournaments are also held in Bainbridge because, well, because it's the perfect place for tennis! In fact, the location is so ideal that Bainbridge hosts five statewide USTA junior tournaments each year. There is also usually at least one major adult tennis tournament, like the 2005 BMW Combo Doubles State and Sectional Championships. Tennis is so popular that Bainbridge actually ranks third in the nation in per capita memberships in the USTA Southern Section.
